COVID-19: Pakistan's confirmed cases jumped to 57705, recovery rate rose to 18314

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 57705 on Tuesday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

The province-wise break up of the total number of cases are as follows:

Total confirmed cases: 57705

• Sindh: 22,934

• Punjab: 20,654

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 8,080

• Balochistan: 3,468

• Islamabad Capital Territory: 1,728

• Gilgit-Baltistan: 630

• AJK: 211

Deaths: 1197

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 408

• Sindh: 374

• Punjab: 352

• Balochistan: 41

• Gilgit-Baltistan: 8

• Islamabad Capital Territory: 17

• AJK: 2

Officials have recorded more than 5.5 million cases and over 346,000 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December, according to a Reuters tally.

PML-N's Nehal Hashmi, KP chief secretary Kazim Niaz test positive for coronavirus

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi has tested positive for the cornavirus.

PML-N spokesperson Asad Usmani on Monday said that Hashmi is under self-isolation at his home in Karachi.

Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Kazim Niaz has also tested positive for coronavirus.

According to provincial Labour Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, Niaz has quarantined at home and will work from home till his recovery from the virus.

Praying for the speedy recovery of the official, KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said: "I pay tribute to Dr Kazim Niaz and his officers for their commendable services during the pandemic."

WHO warns of 'second peak' in areas where Covid-19 is declining

Countries where coronavirus infections are declining could still face an “immediate second peak” if they let up too soon on measures to halt the outbreak, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Monday.
